Wider boards
Most flooring bought by the public these days is pre-finished and manufactured into an easy-to-lay product. These boards are normally narrow, measuring from 90cm to 150cm wide, which is fine for a smaller room. However, when working in larger areas, fitting wider and longer boards can result in a better look, and we are expert in fitting bespoke hard wood boards.
We have undertaken several projects where the client or architect has specified a desire for a unique floor made up of very wide and long boards, often with matching skirting board and stairs. This timber is not pre-finished and has to be hand-crafted, sanded to a very high standard, and hand-finished with oils or laquers. We particularly enjoy taking on this type of work, and have achieved some stunning results.
Bespoke Wood Floor Colouring
Commercial and high street stains can sometimes look overpowering, or are unpleasing to the eye, particularly on larger areas. We use very high quality stains, but een with these, we often “tweak” the colour to customize it to the exact colour match that the customer requires. This can be dictated by the furniture or doors, or to achieve a particular “look” that the customer has seen in a magazine.
Ebonising Wood Floors
There has been demand recently for a very dark, nearly black look to a floor. This can be done by laying a naturally dark wood, such as Wenge, or deep-staining (ebonizing) another less dark timber. By developing a technique of double staining, and by fine-tuning the stain, we can achieve this look – and the result can be stunning!

By using an innovative, new product, we have perfected the look of a sun-bleached or white-washed floor. The result is a very neutral and natural floor, with no yellowness in the boards. This can be particularly effective look in a bathroom, for instance.
